Predicting Implications of Alternative Winter Class Standards on Provincial Highways

Project Overview:

Winter maintenance standards are often applied on the basis of roadway classifications, with each roadway class recieving a different level of maintenance service. However, as development and changes to the regional landscape occur, it may become necesarry to update this classification. These changes can have unforseen consequences, especially in large and diverse regions.

This project is being conducted in partnership with the Minstry of Transportation (Ontario) and is looking at the implications of alternative winter road maintenance service standards. This research aims to address the challenges posed by the many factors that contribute to winter maintenance.
