Project Objectives:

The overall objective of the proposed research is to review and summarize the current snow melting methods, materials, and their environmental impacts/benefits, compiling effectiveness of current and emerging organic anti-icing products in the context of snow and ice controls in parking lot/low volume road. The specific objectives of the project include:

• Review the general literature on snow and ice control methods and material with a specific focus on the effectiveness of organic materials and application constraints;
• Review environmental impacts on current and emerging snow control chemicals;
• Conduct field tests to evaluate the performance of alternative snow control materials, methods and application rates;
• Determine the condition variables that affect the performance of the alternative products;
