Congratulations to Dr. Tae J. Kwon, who will be joining the University of Alberta as a faculty member of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Tae started his PhD study under supervision of Dr. Liping Fu in May 2011 and completed in Dec 2015 in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Waterloo. His research areas include location optimization of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) facilities, spatial and temporal analyses of road traffic and safety, Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) Transportation, and application of Big Data for estimation and forecasting or road and traffic conditions. Tae published more than 20 papers including peer reviewed journal and conference papers, project reports and book chapters. He had also been awarded with many prestigious scholarships and awards, including UW doctoral thesis award, UW / NSERC graduate scholarships (8 times), and environmental studies graduate excellence award (3 times) in recognition of combined academic excellence and scholarly contributions. Since last January, Tae has been with us as a postdoctoral fellow but beginning August 2016, he will start his life-long journey as a faculty in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta.
